Various toxicities following hydrazine poisoning: case report A 22-year-old man developed eye itching, dizziness, choking sensation and liver injury manifesting as elevated alkaline phosphatase and direct hyperbilirubinemia following hydrazine poisoning [dosage not stated, not all outcomes stated]. The man had occupational exposure to hydrazine, exposure duration was estimated to be 30 seconds. He had inhalation and dermal exposure to hydrazine, which resulted in dizziness, eye itching and choking sensation at the time of exposure and resolved spontaneously after leaving the site. He was then admitted to the hospital and monitored with daily blood tests including renal function, liver function, pulmonary function and electrolytes. He was treated with pyridoxine and unspecified maintenance fluids. The hydrazine exposure affected his liver, manifesting as direct hyperbilirubinemia and elevated alkaline phosphatase, which was reflected on the first blood taken 10 hours post exposure and lasted for 10 days. However, ultrasound of his liver was found to be normal. It was concluded that liver injury might be encountered following inhalation and dermal hydrazine exposure and acute liver injury due to hydrazine poisoning was considered. Ghazanfar O, et al.
