A f t e r the s a m p l e s w e r e c l e a n e d with a c e t o n e and lightly etched with a 2 pct HNO3-2 pct HF aqueous solution, the capsule was sealed. The sample capsule was either evacuated for r e s i s t a n c e annealing or p r e s s u r i z e d with high p u r i t y h e l i u m gas f o r r e s i s t i v i t y m e a s u r e m e n t o r aging t r e a t m e n t . O n c e the s a m p l e s w e r e e n c a p s u l a t e d , no e x p o s u r e to a i r o c c u r r e d during the c o u r s e of the e x p e r i m e n t until t h e i r h y d r o g e n c o n tent w a s a n a l y z e d .
