Arrhythmias associated with heritable heart diseases are important to understand, especially since they tend to strike young, and often previously asymptomatic individuals. The first test which may reveal abnormalities in these individuals is almost always the electrocardiogram. The ECG may be performed as part of screening or “case finding” in individuals with symptoms which may suggest arrhythmias.
