Abstract—The properties of fine coal slurries at OOO MMK-Ugol and their flotation are studied. To improve the flotation of finely disperse coal slurries, more effective reagent combinations are employed; TPA collection agent and Sinterol flocculant are considered. In the laboratory, optimal flotation conditions are developed for fine coal slurries. In these conditions, coal enrichment is more efficient thanks to decrease in the loss of organic mass with the flotation wastes. In addition, the reagent consumption is decreased by a factor of 2–3. The effectiveness of Sinterol flocculant is confirmed by industrial tests at OOO MMK-Ugol. Supplying Sinterol at a rate of 1 × 10–3—3 ×10–3 kg/t of coal in the course of flotation increases the yield of concentrate, while also decreasing its ash content by 1.5–2.0%. That decreases the loss of organic mass with the flotation wastes. Increase in the ash content of the flotation wastes by 8.3–13.8% also decreases the loss of organic mass with the wastes. At present, the creation, accumulation, storage, and disposal of wastes is critical in Russia and practically all of its regions. For various reasons, coalenrichment facilities lose coal with waste at a rate of 960000 t/yr [1]. For example, in coal extraction and enrichment, water-based slurries are formed. That considerably increases enrichment wastes. The properties of fine coal slurries must be improved, because they have low adhesion. Their presence in the pulp impairs flotation, as a result of the following processes: — contamination of the product with small rock fractions; — increase in reagent consumption; — decrease in flotation rate; — poorer flotation of larger grains and loss of tailings quality on account of the low selectivity in the flotation of the smallest grains, in many cases.
PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF FINE COAL SLURRIES We consider a sample from the flotation input at OOO MMK-Ugol. Technical analysis of the coal confirms to State Standard GOST R 53357–2013 (ISO 17246–2010). A SIAMS 620 system is used for petrographic analysis of the coal at the Science and Technology Center of PAO MMK. Tables 1 and 2 present the sample properties. We see that their size distribution is nonuniform. This impairs the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of flotation and their stability. Note that the content of
