The influ uence of mecha anical stratigraaphy on the deeformation evo olutioon of the ESW WHHB is a hott problem thaat has received d widespread attention. a How wever, due to the complexity of geeological condiitions, this issu ue has not beeen sufficiently addressed. Prreviews geologiical exp ploration stud dies show that the deformatioon evolution of o the belt is cllosely related tto the mechaniical strratigraphy. Ph hysical simulattion has proven to be effectiive for studyin ng the deformaation evolution n of folld-and-thrust belt. b Based on the geologicall conditions of the ESWHHB B, six groups of physical mod dels weere designed too analyze the in nfluences of th he ductile layerr and overlap configuration on the structu ural deeformation of the t ESWHHB. The results show s that the mechanical stratigraphy haas significant conc trool on the deforrmation evolutiion of the fold--thrust belt. Th he ESWHHB evolution e is rellated to the low wer visscosity of the ductile d layer an nd the larger th hickness of thee ductile layer, while only graadual propaga ated folld-and-thrust belt b can be ressulted from thee higher viscossity of the ducttile layer and tthe smaller thiickneess of the ductiile layer. Additionally, the ovverlap between the stratigraaphy at variou us structural belts leaads to significaant differencess in their mech hanical properties, and it crittically influencces the structu ural paatterns of the ESWHHB. INTRODU UCTION The easttern Sichuan-w western Hunaan and Hubei belt (ESWHHB) iss an important fold-thrust belt that is locateed in the Middle–U Upper Yangtzee region of Chhina (Fig. 1). The structural pattterns of the ESWHHB are apparently a diffferent from classicall fold-thrust beelts in the worlld, although thee deformation chaaracteristics in the fold-thrust belts of typicaal regions in the worldwide w also have h been contrrolled commonly by the weak décoollement layerss (He et al., 20018; Bonini, 20007). The influencee of mechanicaal stratigraphy on the deform mation evolution of thhe fold-thrust beelt is an importtant geological probp lem and this isssue has receiveed great attentioon in the last deccades owing to i
