In view of the increasing competition in the market of rolled products, the problem of evaluation of the quality of strips in various stages of the process of rolling seems to be quite urgent. As the main geometric criteria of the quality of rolled strips, we can mention the cross-sectional profile of hot-rolled semifinished products and the plot of specific tension in the strips after cold rolling. We discuss the problems of formalization of measurements of the cross-sectional profiles, classification of hot-rolled profiles into characteristic types, and the influence of these criteria on the formation of the plots of specific tension in cold-rolled strips. Keywords: hot-rolled steel, cross-sectional profile, cold-rolled steel, plots of specific tension, quality criterion, mathematical model, approximation, classification.
In the production of cold-rolled strips on continuous mills, the main problem is to get products with given geometric sizes and the required quality parameters [1–4]. The process of shaping of cold-rolled strips is noticeably affected by the specific features of the cross-sectional profiles of hot-rolled semifinished products [5–11]. Despite the fact that contemporary hot-rolling mills are equipped with automated systems of control over the cross-sectional profile in the process of rolling, there exists a possibility to get hot-rolled semifinished products with violated accuracy of the profile [12–14]. Therefore, the problem of control over the flatness of cold-rolled products based on the available information about the accuracy of geometric sizes of the profile of semifinished hot-rolled products seems to be actual. To solve this problem, it is necessary to digitize the cross-sectional profile, to develop an algorithm for the classification of profiles into certain characteristic types, to analyze the inheritance of the shape of profiles of hot-rolled semifinished products by the plots of the distribution of specific tension over the width of cold-rolled strips, and to formulate the optimal task for the system of regulation of flatness in a cold-rolling mill. In a 2000 wide-strip hot-rolling mill of the “NLMK,” JSC, the cross-sectional profile is measured with the help of a SIPRO X-ray diffraction profilometer. The structure of measuring matrix of the profilometer guarantees the possibility of scanning of the thickness of a strip over the width with steps of 5 mm. The scan of the cross-sectional profile is a vector that includes 180–370 measurements depending on the width of the strip specifying the number of activated measuring cameras of the profilometer. Note that 40–200 scans of this kind are formed depending on the strip length. The results of measurements of a single strip with the help of a SIPRO profilometer can be represented in the form of a matrix: 1 2 3
