Recurrent hypoglycaemia: case report A 56-year-old man developed recurrent hypoglycaemia while receiving insulin glargine. The man had an 8-year history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and had initially been treated with metformin and glimepiride, which did not provide adequate glycaemic control. He was then prescribed insulin glargine, given once in the evening at a starting dose of 14U [route not stated]. The dose was titrated according to self-monitored blood glucose values. At 4 months, he had increased his dose to 34U/day and had experienced recurrent hypoglycaemia [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. These episodes limited further titration. He had also gained 5kg in body weight. He was switched to insulin aspart/insulin protamine aspart. At 4-month follow-up, he had achieved good glycaemic control and had not experienced any hypoglycaemic episodes. Gumprecht J.
