When Dr Rami Olwan invited me to write a foreword for this book, I accepted his kind invitation without hesitation for a variety of reasons. The subject of the book, the relationship between intellectual property and development, is particularly dear to me and has been at the center of the international negotiations and debates in which I have had the privilege of being involved during the past decade.
