Since the first edition of International Practice Theory was written, the practice theoretical debate in international relations has matured significantly. It seemed reasonable to drop the “new perspectives” sub-title, considering that practice theory is now a well-established perspective. What sparked our ambition for this significantly revised and extended edition was, firstly, to include many of the great practice theoretical works published in the last years. New answers to the challenges we set out in the first edition, such as questions of change and materiality, have been published and require attention. We were, secondly, delighted to see that the first edition was received as an accessible overview and entrance point to the practice debate in international relations. In this new version, we have aimed at living up to the promise of providing a gateway to practice by further adding clarity and elaborating more fully on some of the intricate theoretical and practical challenges of international practice theory.
