Abstract: In this article, in calibration process of strain cylinder, which is performed according to ISO 376 standard, effect of loading apparatus with different dimensions on measurement result has been investigated. In addition, relative repeatability error of calibration on measurement results, temperature fluctuation, accuracy error of measurements, creep error, as well as the stability and metrological characteristics of indicator have been examined. As a result, it has been determined that use of loading pads with different diameters has significantly affected metrological performance of strain cylinder. Introduction Based on safety in construction sector, many international standards have been produced for examination and evaluation of concrete properties in concrete structures. When examining safety of concrete structures, the most basic feature to be considered is to determine whether the resistance to compressive loads of the building is at desired level. Today, in this respect, concrete testing machines are used for examining resistance of concrete samples to compressive loads. Because of technical characteristics of process, concrete testing machines must have some standard features. Calibration of concrete testing machines designed to measure resistance to compressive strength of concrete is included in European Standard EN 12390-4 [1]. Furthermore, force verification of concrete testing machines is carried out by using appropriate strain cylinder. Strain cylinder, named strain gauged column, is a kind of force transducer with four-channel outputs. Actually, strain cylinder is not optimal force transducer for calibration of force scale. However, today, in order to reduce costs, second-level accredited or will be accredited force laboratories are using strain cylinder for force calibration as well. For this reason, strain cylinders have to calibrate according to international standard ISO 376 [2]. A number

of papers have been obtained, when literature survey is done in force metrology area about strain cylinder. In paper [3], it is given a calibration procedure which has been developed for strain gauged column. On the other hand, it is mentioned a new method for calibration of strain cylinders using laser interferometry in the literature [4]. In this paper, effects of different sizes of compression apparatus on measurement and evaluation in calibration process of strain cylinder concerning international standard ISO 376 have been presented. Also, measurements result and interpretations have been investigated by cons
