JMR Launches Electronic Submission Database In April, Materials Research Society’s Journal of Materials Research (JMR) launched a Web-based manuscript submission and tracking system called Global Editor. JMR is one of the pioneer users of this system, which facilitates the submission and review process for authors and referees. This system enables authors to send their manuscripts, figures, and contact information to the journal through the Internet. Moreover, authors who submit their manuscripts electronically will be able to connect to the system at any time to check on the status of their manuscript. The introduction of Global Editor

promises to further reduce the length of the journal’s review process, as manuscripts and reviews will be sent electronically between the JMR office and Principal Editors and reviewers worldwide. Reviewers and editors will then be able to submit their recommendations online. Editor-in-Chief Robert Frankenthal is enthusiastic about the journal’s entrance into the world of electronic publication. JMR began its migration by making abstracts of all volumes available online for the general public at www.mrs.org/ publications/jmr/jmra. Frankenthal said, “This site also provides JMR subscribers with the benefit of online access to the
complete texts of volumes published from 1996 through the current issue.” JMR is published 12 times a year and is devoted to reports of original research and, on occasion, review articles. Its scope encompasses various aspects of materials research, including the preparation, processing, characterization, and theoretical description of materials with new or unusual structure and properties. Authors may submit their manuscripts electronically by visiting www.mrs. org/publications/ jmr/esubmission.html, where they can link to detailed submission information and instructions.
