Lead contamination in Ayurvedic medicine Manasmithra Vatika The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and state health authorities are investigating a report of contamination with lead and other heavy metals in the Ayurvedic medicine Manasmithra Vatika [Manasamitram Pills], which has been supplied to practitioners and patients in at least two Australian states (New South Wales and Victoria). If the levels of lead are high, they may cause lead poisoning, particularly in pregnant women and children, which may result in potentially fatal long-term adverse effects including organ damage. Consumers are advised not to use Manasmithra Vatika, and to seek advice from their doctor or the Australian Poisons Information Centre if they have taken any. All suspected Manasmithra Vatika-related adverse events should be reported to the TGA. Therapeutic Goods Administration. Manasmithra Vatika (Manasamitram Pills) Ayurvedic medicine.
