Preface
Observations of the higher education sector indicate that despite numerous attempts at reforms, universities change more slowly than is expected by their stakeholders. A considerable emphasis is put on changes in the organisational and technical spheres, while too little attention is paid to their social dimension, including organisational culture. Changes are usually implemented on a top-down basis, hence they are met with misunderstanding and resistance on the part of university employees. Therefore, more and more higher education institutions make use of the change philosophy, methods, and tools offered by the concept of Lean Management. They believe that Lean Management has the potential for change in higher education organisational culture towards the continuous improvement of the processes which create value for stakeholders. A true change in a university management model is possible only if the new approach becomes a part of a given school’s organisational culture, culture of everyday work manifesting itself in employees’ proper behaviours and at
