PREFACE
This book fills a gap by bridging several literatures on lobbying which flourish in relative isolation. It is based on my dissertation which I submitted to the University of Mannheim in 2014. In particular, formal models of lobbying and predominantly empirical approaches seldom go hand in hand. The book demonstrates how the current disconnect between formal models of lobbying and empirical studies can be cured. It will be useful for researchers on both sides of the aisle. I hope that we will see more collaboration between proponents of the different approaches in the field in the future. The process of writing the dissertation was long and arduous. Revising it for publication was a very different journey. I have changed a substantial amount of things. New experiences and many discussions with colleagues have changed my views and improved the book in numerous ways. I am grateful for the advice and comments.
