McNeil Consumer Healthcare recalls wide range of products McNeil Consumer Healthcare is recalling a wide range of product lots in the Americas, the United Arab Emirates and Fiji following the discovery that certain products may induce gastrointestinal events and may contain 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. The recall was initiated following consumer reports of medication emitting a "unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor" that investigation determined was 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. This odour was associated with a small number of temporary non-serious gastrointestinal events, including diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain and vomiting. 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is a chemical that can be formed through the breakdown of another chemical that is sometimes used to treat wood used to build wood palettes for product transport. The current action includes certain lots of branded products such as Motrin [ibuprofen], Tylenol [paracetamol], Extra Strength Rolaids [calcium carbonate/magnesium hydroxide/simethicone], Benadryl [diphenhydramine], St Joseph Aspirin and Simply Sleep [diphenhydramine]. This voluntary recall expands the list of recalled products from a December 2009 recall of Tylenol Arthritis Pain 100 count with EZOPEN cap [paracetamol], that was related to this same issue.
