Foreword
Participation in athletics offers many rewards including physical dominance, individual and shared success, record setting opportunities, public adornment, and adoration. However, the inherent trade-off of obtaining the reward is exposing oneself to the risk, i.e., injury. Much has been written concerning the evaluation and treatment of upper extremity injury in overhead athletes. Those works have provided a wealth of practical information regarding injury incidences, evaluation techniques, surgical techniques, rehabilitation protocols, and patient outcomes, all of which have guided clinical practice. However, although most of the published information has alluded to treating the patient as an individual, the end products were often global guidelines focused on a single sport or all overhead athletes
