The 1st Joint Symposium on Advanced Science and Technology for the Industrial Revolution 4.0 was held at Fuzhou University in China on December 1–3, 2016, under cooperation and collaboration among Fuzhou University (FZU), Osaka Prefecture University (OPU), and National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU). In the scientific program, we had four excellent invited keynote lectures by Prof. Y.B. Kim (Korea), Prof. N. Sugimura (Japan), Prof. J.Y. Yen (Taiwan), and Prof. Y.L.
