New Drug Interaction Probability Scale available A newly developed Drug Interaction Probability Scale (DIPS) has been published in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy. The DIPS was developed by recognised drug interaction experts, John R Horn, Philip D Hansten and Lingtak-Neander Chan, from the University of Washington, US. The DIPS scale offers clinicians, authors and medical journals an objective way to assess causality in drug interaction cases. The scale uses a series of yes/no questions to give a score to estimate the likelihood that an interaction occurred. The scale comprises ten questions about specific patient factors, the pharmacologic properties of the suspected drugs, and the possible role of any other drugs that the patient is receiving. Points are then added or subtracted, based on the answers to these questions. Annals of Pharmacotherapy. New Scale Available to Evaluate Drug Interactions. Media Release : 27 Mar 2007.
