Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus: case report A man in his 80s [exact age not stated] developed sub-acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) during treatment with omeprazole [route, dosage and indication not stated]. The man presented with a 2-year history of pruritic rash on the arms and trunk. The rash was characterised by erythematous and annular polycyclic plaques with central areas of clearing and hyperpigmentation, and peripheral scale. A punch biopsy showed interface dermatitis with increased interstitial mucin, which was indicative of lupus erythematosus. Subsequent serological tests showed positive results for anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB and antinuclear antibodies (titer, 1:640). Upon anamnesis, it was revealed that he had started receiving omeprazole one month prior to the onset of the eruption. Overall findings suggested drug-induced SCLE. The man was discontinued omeprazole, which resulted in a marked improvement in the rash after 1 month. A diagnosis of druginduced SCLE was then confirmed. Hall EL, et al.
