Allergic reactions: 9 case reports Six women and three men aged 23–63 years developed allergic reactions to omeprazole [indications, routes, dosages, durations of treatment to reactions onset and outcomes not stated]. Patients 1–8 developed immediate allergic reactions, including urticaria/angioedema (4 patients) and anaphylaxis (4), while patient 9 developed a delayed reaction (exudative erythema multiforme). In patients 1–8, skin prick testing with omeprazole 4 mg/mL was negative. The intradermal test with omeprazole 0.4 mg/mL was positive in five patients, and the challenge test with omeprazole was positive in three patients. Challenge tests with pantoprazole, other benzimidazole derivatives (mebendazole, domperidone and mizolastine) and other drugs were negative. Dot-blot testing was performed in one patient, and the result was positive. In patient 9, patch testing with omeprazole 1% was negative at 48 and 96h. The challenge test with omeprazole was positive, while challenge tests with other benzimidazole derivatives and other drugs were negative. Author comment: "We present a series of 9 cases of allergic reaction to omeprazole diagnosed using skin tests in 5 cases and challenge tests in the remaining 4." Abdul Razzak E, et al.
