Paclitaxel Dermatitis, eczema, inflammatory folliculitis and scarring alopecia: 2 case reports A 49-year-old woman developed dermatitis, eczema and inflammatory folliculitis and a 46-year-old woman developed dermatitis, eczema, inflammatory folliculitis and scarring alopecia during treatment with paclitaxel [route not stated]. Case 1: A 49-year-old woman, who had a history of salpingo-oophorectomy, started receiving chemotherapy with paclitaxel 80 mg/m2 weekly and carboplatin for epithelial ovarian cancer. During the treatment day 8, she presented to a hospital due to pustular exfoliation of the skull area, posterior neck and her upper back. Physical examination showed a diffuse erythematous skin rash along with pustules and scaling on her upper trunk, neck and skull. Dermatitis, eczema and inflammatory folliculitis persisted during the chemotherapy. She was treated with antifungals and antihistamines. Although the dermatological problems persisted during chemotherapy, treatment was continued. One month later, symptoms subsided when the chemotherapy was completed. Case 2: A 46-year-old woman started receiving chemotherapy with paclitaxel 80 mg/m2 weekly and cisplatin for advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. At 3 weeks the chemotherapy, she developed scarring alopecia with erythema on the occipital skull and sparse follicular pustules. Reddened bumps, skin inflammation and pus-like sores were also observed on her forehead, chin, cheeks and upper chest. Dermatitis, eczema and inflammatory folliculitis persisted during the chemotherapy. She was treated with antifungals and antihistamines and the symptoms were wellcontrolled, aloowing for continuation of chemotherapy.
