Paracetamol Unresponsive to treatment: case report

An 8-year-old child [sex not stated] exhibited unresponsive treatment with paracetamol for pain and headache. The child was hospitalised for acute onset headache and pain in the right cervical area, which was unresponsive to paracetamol [acetaminophen; route and dosage not stated]. Subsequently, a movement deficit of the facial nerve (VII cranial nerve) appeared which evolved in complete Bell’s palsy over 24 hours. The child had a history of skin burn due to contact with Heracleum mantegazzianum. The child received prednisone with subsequent resolution of facial nerve palsy. Further, it was concluded that the child’s facial nerve palsy was secondary to contact with Heracleum mantegazzianum. Schicchi A, et al.
