This book is dedicated to Tony Beasley, a valued friend and colleague. As a founder member of the British Academy of Management Performance Management Special Interest Group, Tony was the inspiration both for this book and the associated ESRC seminar series. The editors both worked closely with Tony over a number of years, first as an ESRC Teaching Fellow and later as an officer of BAM and researcher with an interest in performance and performance management. Many of the contributors in the book have similarly worked with him and he has been an inspiration to us all.
