Pharmacogenetics Working Party The Working Party held its fourth and final face-to-face meeting of 2000 on 15 December 2000. I am pleased to report that since our inaugural meeting in January we have continued to make progress regards this initiative and the tangible evidence for this is the draft overall document which we now have. Our meeting in December concentrated on identifying the logistical steps which need to be taken before the presentation of the Working Party’s findings. We are pleased to have the services of Dr Miriam O’Hare (Micron Research) to take on the editing role to facilitate production of the final overall document. The latter will be published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Medicine in April and will be accompanied by two or three editorials from distinguished scientists.
Thanks to our Working Party Chairman, Professor Stephen Holgate, The Royal Institution in London has been booked for Thursday 26 April for the presentation of the Working Party, a date for everyone’s diary. In addition to the sub-groups summarizing their main findings there will be a panel debate towards the end of the day to discuss the main findings, when distinguished guests will provide their own views and comments to some of the issues raised during the day. Finally we plan to hold a press reception at the end of the day to announce the main findings for the Working Party. It promises to be an exciting day at a unique venue. Martin W Lunnon, on behalf of the Pharmacogenetics Working Party
