Pharmacy Practice Research Methods Second Edition is a comprehensive compendium on research methods used in pharmacy practice research [1]. Some chapters are an update of the chapters in the first edition of the book; however, there are seven new chapters making it an even more useful resource in the field. This book is a great resource to understand what pharmacy practice is, and how it helps to contribute towards improving the use of medicines. The chapters provide examples and case studies of this research, how different methodologies differ from each other, strengths, limitations, introduction as well as how some of the methods could be employed. The chapters in the book can be broadly divided into three categories, the one talking about different methods ranging from mixed methods, qualitative, quantitative approach, action research, realist theories, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis etc. The chapters on qualitative methods and action research in pharmacy practice, covert and overt observations as well as realist research, mixed methods research provide a step by step guide performing a pharmacy practice research. The second category of chapters are those which provide supportive and supplementary information, they are more issue-specific including chapters on information resources in pharmacy practice, pharmacoepidemiology as well as the use of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in pharmacy practice. Another category of the chapters offer commentary on the issues including the chapters on future of pharmacy practice, as well as evidence and impact of this research.

Below is a chapter‑wise description of this book The first chapter is about pharmacy practice research evidence, impact, and it discusses case studies and examples regarding generating evidence in health services research in pharmacy. The chapter is a useful update of the previous version, though most of the content remains the same. In Chapter 2, qualitative research methods are discussed step by step, providing a framework, and this is well supported by articulating strengths and limitations of this approach. Chapter 3 (Action Research in Pharmacy Practice) and Chapter 6 (Realist Research in Pharmacy Practice) complement each other in different aspects. While the former presents the practical approach of the research methods based on the researcher-client relationship and narrates studies carried out in different countries, Chapter 6 provides more understanding between causal mechanisms and effect through the explanation of realist theories.
