Purple glove syndrome in a child: case report A 9-year-old girl was admitted to a paediatric ICU with status epilepticus and septic shock. She was administered IV phenytoin 18 mg/kg, with a half reload after 90 minutes. Seven hours later, her left hand was swollen, cold and purple, with a prolonged capillary refill time. She was diagnosed with purple glove syndrome. Duplex ultrasonography revealed distal forearm venous occlusion of the left arm. Disseminated intravascular coagulation was also observed. Over the subsequent 3 weeks, she developed demarcation of the left index finger and thumb, with distal portions becoming nonviable. Prince NJ, et al.
