In 2015, the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change adopted the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement provides a framework for global action to address climate change in the period after 2020. The objective of the agreement is to limit the increase in global temperatures to well below 2  C above preindustrial levels while also considering a limit of 1.5  C.
