Propranolol withdrawal Haemangioma precurosr rebound in an infant: case report An infant [sex not stated; age at onset not clearly stated] developed haemangioma rebound after the withdrawal of propranolol. The infant first presented at the age of 1 month due to a precursor of haemangioma in the palpebral and right frontal area. The infant was treated with topical propranolol 1% twice a day in a fat-based lotion. The haemangioma precursor had almost completely regressed after 2 months of treatment. However, propranolol therapy was continued until the infant was 5 months old. One month after the suspension of propranolol, the haemangioma precursor had returned. The infant’s haemangioma precursor was monitored without any treatment. The haemangioma precursor had become even more evident when the infant was at the age of 1 year [outcome not stated]. Author comment: "[T]he rebound effect can occur also after the suspension of topical treatment with propranolol. This effect underlines the unpredictability of the natural history of hemangioma and must be taken into account in establishing the duration of treatment." Bonifazi E. Rebound effect after topical treatment with propranolol. European 803078425 Journal of Pediatric Dermatology 22: 167, No. 2, Apr-Jun 2012 - Italy
