Fatal liver and kidney failure: case report A 19-year-old woman, who was receiving propylthiouracil [dosage not stated] for hyperthyroidism, developed acute liver and kidney failure [time to reaction onset not stated]. Her serum creatinine level was 5.3 mg/dL. Five days after presentation, liver transplantation was performed, but she died the following day. Post-mortem wedge kidney biopsy revealed acute tubular necrosis. Subsequently, the patient’s kidneys were successfully transplanted into two patients. Bennett AE, et al.
