Epidemiology 2.22 Hypertension and Spurious Systolic Hypertension in Youth P. Salvi ` Nancy, France CHU de Nancy, Vandoeuvre les Introduction: The aim of this study has been to evaluate usefulness of a blood pressure screening in a teenaged population. 1277 students, 99.5% of pupils attending an high school, (561 M, 716 F, mean age 16.3 ± 1.4 yrs) has been evaluated. Blood pressure (BP) and heart rate have been measured three times, three minutes apart, together with, after a 7 minutes rest in a quiet room. Methods: An haemodynamic not invasive evaluation has been proposed to the elder pupils (455 of 680, mean age 17.4 ± 0.9 yrs) attending the last three classes; to perform this part of the study we utilised transcutaneous arterial tonometry (PulsePen®), acquiring carotid, femoral and radial arterial pressure waveforms together with pulse wave velocity (PWV). Results: At the first evaluation, 115 students (77 M, 38 F, 9% of the evaluated population) presented BP >13585 mmHg; 45 of them (30 M, 15 F) had BP values >140/90 mmHg. At a second evaluation a BP over 135/85 mmHg have been found only in 46 of the previous 115 (3.6%, 35 M, 11 F); in this last group 5 students (=0.4%) presented a systolic BP over 140 mmHg, together with diastolic values over 90 mmHg, while 17 (=1.3%) had high systolic BP (>140 mmHg) and normal diastolic BP (
