■ A safety advisory regarding Zhuifeng Tougu Wan, an unauthorised health product found to contain mercury, has been issued by Health Canada. The product is being voluntarily recalled by distributor Wing Quon Enterprises after testing showed levels of mercury well exceeding the allowable limit; Health Canada is monitoring the recall. Those who consume the product are at risk of mercury poisoning, which in some cases can be fatal; children and pregnant women are most susceptible to toxicity. The product also contains excess levels of lead and arsenic, which are also associated with serious adverse effects. Consumers who have purchased the product, which was sold by four retailers in British Columbia and one in Ontario, should report any adverse effects suspected to be related to the product to Heath Canada.
