Al-Bi-Si (Aluminum-Bismuth-Silicon) V. Raghavan

Recently, [2010Kab] presented new experimental results and a thermodynamic description of this ternary system.

Binary Systems The Al-Bi phase diagram [Massalski2] depicts a liquid miscibility gap with the critical temperature at 1037 C. A monotectic reaction occurs at 657 C, where an Al-rich liquid L¢ decomposes to (Al) and a Birich liquid L¢¢. The final solidification is at the Bi-end through the eutectic reaction at 270 C: L¢¢ M (Al) + (Bi). The Al-Si phase diagram is a simple eutectic system with the eutectic reaction at 577 C and 12.2 at.% Si. The Bi-Si system [Massalski2] depicts a liquid miscibility gap with a monotectic reaction at 1400 C: L0 ð3:3 at:% BiÞ $ ðSiÞ ð
