Scope of the Conference Molecular epidemiotogy is a relatively new research field utilising techniques derived from molecular biology within epidemiological studies. Much research in this area has cancer as its focus due to the rapid advances being made in understanding the molecular basis of carcinogenesis. The meeting will include contributions from both epidemiologists and laboratory scientists and will consider, in depth, four specific sites of cancer where advances in molecular epidemiology are being made: oesophagus, large bowel, bladder and skin. Further sessions will review methodological advances in laboratory techniques and epidemiological study design, and methodology in and results obtained from controlled investigations which make use of molecular measurements and may be relevant model systems for molecular epidemiology. There will be two sessions for short proffered papers.
