From birth to death, medicine accompanies everyone. This in itself testifies to the interest that we all have in medicine as informed by the most significant science and technology. The international conference on Anticipation and Medicine (Delmenhorst, September 28–30, 2015) offered the opportunity for evaluating to which extent anticipation, a subject familiar in the medical field, makes a difference. The Freshheads (Die Frischköpfe) of the Metropole Nordwest, the Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg/Institute for Advanced Study, and the University of Texas at Dallas/antÉ—Institute for Research in Anticipatory Systems provided funding for a meeting of practicing physicians, of scientists and technologists, of providers of alternative treatment methods. They succeeded in sustaining a lively conversation on how anticipation informs their activity. This volume deviates slightly from the program (peer-review stringency, as well as time strictures, explains the deviation), and from what are usually considered conference proceedings. It is representative of the variety of perspectives pursued in medical anticipation research and associated fields.
