Antiepileptic-drugs Drug allergy, and aggravation of cognitive impairment and behavioural problems: case report
A male patient [age not stated] developed drug allergy, and aggravation of cognitive impairment and behavioural problems during treatment with lacosamide, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, perampanel, rufinamide or topiramate for Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) [routes, dosages, durations of treatments to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]*. The male patient, who had a history of LGS since the age of 6 months, had received multiple anti-seizure drugs. He also exhibited cognitive impairment and behavioural problems. At the age of 15 years, he had a vagus nerve stimulator device implanted. Thereafter, he underwent corpus callosotomy. The seizure control was still unsatisfactory. He had received clobazam, phenobarbital and oxcarbazepine [Trileptal]. However, no improvement was noted. He had experienced drug allergy during treatment with lamotrigine [Lamictal] and rufinamide. Lacosamide and topiramate therapies caused more cognitive impairment. Perampanel and levetiracetam induced more behavioural problems. Therefore, in 2019, at the age of 37 years, the male patient was tried on cannabinoid oil, which controlled his seizures better. * Country of occurrence, reporter country and primary source country not stated.
