Lack of efficacy: 25 case reports A study of 50 patients described 25 patients aged 17–44 years [sexes not stated], who exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with valproate, levetiracetam, carbamazepine, topiramate, oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine or phenytoin for frontal lobe epilepsy [routes and dosages not stated]. The patients, who experienced first seizure onset at the age between 3–36 years, were diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy (complex partial seizure, generalized tonic-clonic seizure, secondarily generalised tonic-clonic seizure or simple partial seizure). The patients started receiving anti-epileptic treatment with valproate and levetiracetam (three patients), carbamazepine and levetiracetam (one patient), topiramate and levetiracetam (two patients), oxcarbazepine and levetiracetam (six patients), carbamazepine, valproate and lamotrigine (one patient), carbamazepine and valproate (five patients), oxcarbazepine and lamotrigine (two patients), oxcarbazepine and topiramate (one patient), valproate (one patient), phenytoin and carbamazepine (one patient), levetiracetam and lamotrigine (one patient), topiramate and carbamazepine (one patient). However, the frontal lobe epilepsy was refractory to the anti-epileptic treatment in all these patients. Wu X, et al.
