Postoperative bleeding: 2 case reports In a retrospective study of 279 patients who had undergone thyroid surgery at the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland, between 2007 and 2012, two patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed postoperative bleeding during treatment with aspirin or clopidogrel [routes, dosages and durations of treatments to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated]. The patients, who underwent thyroid surgery, started receiving antiplatelet therapy with aspirin (1 patient) and anticoagulation therapy with clopidogrel [Plavix; 1 patient]. Post-operatively, both the patients developed bleeding. Both the patients required a second operation because of postoperative bleeding. None of them received a haemostatic patch at the time of the initial operation. Scaroni M, et al. Effectiveness of hemostatic agents in thyroid surgery for the prevention of postoperative bleeding.
