Aspirin/clopidogrel/heparin Bleeding: 4 case reports

In a prospective, single-centre, observational study of 474 patients, who underwent coronary angiography at the Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden between October 2006 and May 2011, four patients [sexes and ages not stated] were described, who developed bladder bleeding (1 patient), urethral bleeding (1 patient), intracranial bleeding (1 patient) or eye bleeding (1 patient) during antiplatelet therapy with clopidogrel and aspirin, and anticoagulant therapy with heparin [routes not stated; not all dosages stated]. All patients were scheduled for coronary angiography. Prior to coronary angiography, all patients received loading doses of clopidogrel and aspirin, followed by aspirin 75 mg/day. All patients also received heparin in weight-adjusted doses. Subsequently, all patients underwent coronary angiography. However, within a 30-day follow-up period, patients developed bleeding complications manifested as bladder bleeding (n=1), urethral bleeding (n=1), intracranial bleeding (n=1) or eye bleeding (n=1) [times to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated].
