Ulnar shortening: case report In a study involving 60 patients (patients attended thalassemia daycare center between November 2013 and March 2015), a patient [age and sex not stated] was described, who exhibited ulnar shortening while receiving chelation therapy with deferiprone for thalassemia. The patient had transfusion-dependent thalassemia. The patient had been receiving chelation therapy with deferiprone [route and dosage not stated]. Subsequently, anteroposterior radiograph with the patient’s forearm in the mid-prone position showed marked ulnar shortening as well as a corresponding increase in the ulnar variance. Additionally, anteroposterior radiograph with the patient’s elbow in extension showed marked ulnar shortening with radial bowing as well as corresponding increase in the distal radial articular angle. Treatment with deferiprone was considered to be associated with the patient’s ulnar shortening [duration of treatment to reaction onset and outcome not stated]. Dhawan P, et al.
