Deformation Induced Alpha and Epsilon Martensites in Fe-Ni-Cr Single Crystals GLEN STONE AND GARETH THOMAS The o r i e n t a t i o n dependence of a n applied t e n s i l e s t r e s s on the f o r m a t i o n of specific ~ m a r t e n s i t e v a r i a n t s of the K u r d j u m o v - S a c h s (K-S) o r i e n t a t i o n r e l a t i o n s h i p in F e - 1 5 Ni-15 Cr s i n g l e c r y s t a l s a r e p r e s e n t e d . T e s t t e m p e r a t u r e s were 185, 242 and 273 K, i . e . , above M s . Quantitative v o l u m e f r a c t i o n m e a s u r e m e n t s of d e f o r m a t i o n induced ~ and e m a r t e n s i t e were made on c r y s t a l s with the [10017 , [1i017 , [i1213" and [21313" t e n s i l e axes. ~ - m a r t e n s i t e was only o b s e r v e d a f t e r 5 pct s t r a i n at 185 K in all o r i e n t a t i o n s , but the total v o l u m e f r a c tion of ~ m a r t e n s i t e v a r i e d f r o m
