Abstract In recent years, fusion studies such as context-aware, multimedia contents and cloud computing in information technology (IT) have been on the rise through the technological development of hardware and software. The automatic context-aware technology using multimedia image data requires high computation. Cloud computing has played a role in meeting the requirements of high computation. The automatic context-aware technology utilizing previously developed multimedia image data has lacked user-defined semantic inference capabilities considerably. This paper proposes a Semantic Image Processing Mechanism for Automatic Context-Aware (SIPM-ACA) based on cloud computing. Semantic inference is done through user-created multimedia contents images. Image’s semantics are verified by analyzing texts created by other users. Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is utilized to find the relationship between image similarities. Through this, proactive context-awareness according to user’s context can be inferenced. Keywords Cloud computing

1 Introduction In recent years, a number of studies on multimedia contents and automatic context-aware technologies in information technology (IT) have been underway through the technological development of hardware and software [1–4]. Multimedia contents have been used in many areas. Among them, multimedia image data have been utilized in automatic context-awareness. The automatic context-aware technology using multimedia image data requires high computation. The cloud computing environment provides resources and high computation that are required by automatic context-aware technology. The context-awareness shall verify all interactive pieces of information related to objects beyond simple judgments about events [5]. Existing studies showed difficulties in semantic judgment because semantic inference is conducted by using limited specific elements between objects. This paper proposes a Semantic Image Processing Mechanism for Automatic Context-Aware (SIPM-ACA). The SIPM-ACA reasons semantic meaning in images. The SIPM-ACA collects similar semantical images using Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) that utilizes color, texture, and shape contained in multimedia image data. In order to verify the meaning in images, user’s experience about each of images is collected. User’s experience and user-defined semantic image are matched with each other. As a result, contexts from collected images c
