Foreword
As a gynecologist dividing my time equally between clinical and research activities, I feel I am in a strong position to see the bigger picture when it comes to the complexities of this new and exciting field. I obtained my PhD on ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation back in 2006 and have continued working in this fascinating area ever since. Curiously, from a very early age, I was drawn to the subject of fertility preservation, possibly sparked by my concern when one of my younger brothers was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 2. Since 2012, I have been head of the gynecology research laboratory at the Université Catholique de Louvain, Brussels, a globally renowned center.
