Various toxicities: case report In a single-institution retrospective study of 69 patients conducted between 01 March 2014 and 30 March 2018, six patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed pneumothorax, subcutaneous emphysema, pulmonary haemorrhage, bloody sputum, haemoptysis, seed migration to the pleural cavity or radiation pneumonitis during brachytherapy with iodine-125 for synchronous oligometastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The patients, who had synchronous oligometastatic NSCLC, started receiving brachytherapy with iodine-125 seeds [sodium iodine]. Local anaesthesia with lidocaine was administered at the site of needle entry, and steel brachytherapy needles were implanted using the trajectory determined in the plan. The iodine-125 seeds were inserted through each needle using the implantation applicator. The brachytherapy was performed concurrently with or before the first unspecified chemotherapy cycle. However, six patients developed complications after brachytherapy with iodine-125 seeds including mild pneumothorax associated with subcutaneous emphysema (1 patient), mild pneumothorax (1 patient), mild pulmonary haemorrhage and haemoptysis (1 patient), mild pulmonary haemorrhage and bloody sputum (1 patient), local radiation pneumonitis (1 patient), and seed migration to the pleural cavity (1 patient) [duration of treatments to reaction onsets not stated]. In one of the two patients with only mild pneumothorax, thoracic cavity was closed for drainage. The patients, who had pulmonary haemorrhage, were treated with haemocoagulase or etamsylate injections, and all the symptoms disappeared within 1–3 days of treatment [not all outcomes stated].
