Preface

The Islamic cause had seen big promises in Turkey: economic prosperity, high standards of law, and a decent status in global politics. Simply, its pledge was to bring Turkey back to the “Golden Age of Muslims,” which is believed to have happened somewhere in history. Millions of Turks have made sacrifices in different ways to contribute to the Islamization of Turkey, but all efforts were affiliated with making Turkey a better country with Islam. People sincerely believe that Islamization will solve Turkey’s problems. For the millions who supported it, Islamization was a stanḋ alone magic cure. A Turkish slogan “Islam gelecek, dertler bitecek” (Islam is the solution for all problems) summarizes that mindset. However, Islamization in Turkey has brought the country to the brink of a multifaceted catastrophe. In less than two decades, Islamism transformed Turkey into an authoritarian regime with a host of structural problems ranging across the economy and foreign policy.
