Hallucinations: case report A 34-year-old woman developed hallucinations during treatment with ketamine and lidocaine for trigeminal neuralgia [dosages, duration of treatments to reaction onsets and outcome not stated]. The woman, who had bilateral trigeminal neuralgia was initially treated with carbamazepine and levetiracetam. Later, due to further worsening of pain during hospitalisation, she received lidocaine and ketamine drip along with unspecified fluids. However, she developed intolerable hallucinations. The woman’s treatment with lidocaine and ketamine was discontinued. She also received hydromorphone [dilaulid], ketorolac 15mg as needed every 8 hours, methocarbamol, methylprednisolone 1g once, phenytoin 250mg once, fosphenytoin 700mg followed by 1000mg, and carbamazepine which were stopped due to pain with swallowing. However, there was no improvement with ketamine, phenytoin and fosphenytoin. Due to ineffectiveness and unspecified side effects, ketorolac, methylprednisolone and hydromorphone were stopped. She further received methocarbamol. On day 3 of admission, she received levetiracetam that showed improvement in her condition. Thereafter, she was commenced on gabapentin and carbamazepine, which successfully controlled her pain. She was discharged on gabapentin, carbamazepine and levetiracetam. Benkli B, et al.
