These proceedings contain the papers presented at TAROS 2016, the 17th edition of the conference Towards Autonomous Robotic Systems, held in Sheffield, UK from the 28th to the 30th June 2016. The conference was held earlier in the year than previously, to coincide with the inaugural UK Robotics Week (25th June–1st July).
