Dedicated to Dr. Ekkehard Kriiger-Thiemer
Dr. EKKEHARD KRUGER-THIEMER has been a world-leading authority in the field of pharmacokinetics. He was a brilliant intellectual, not only with a broad knowledge in medicine and the natural sciences, but also with a thorough background in cultural sciences. He was a world-leading scientist with a most sympathetic personality. As a young physician he was forced to interrupt his career during World War II and for 5 years thereafter he was deprived of freedom by the Russian state. Finally, once again back in the free world he continued his studies in mathematics which he completed quite successfully in 1954. Dr. KRUGER-THIEMER was appointed to a research position at the Borstel Tuberculosis Research Institute in Northern Germany. Here he combined his broad knowledge in medicine, microbiology, and mathematics for the optimalization of chemotherapy in tuberculosis and other infecti
