Akathisia: case report A 45-year-old man developed akathisia following administration of metoclopramide. The man had a post-burn contracture of his elbow and was scheduled for contracture release and split skin grafting. He received IV metoclopramide 10mg as premedication in addition to ranitidine. After 5 minutes, he developed an uneasy sensation, exhibited movements of his legs and arms, and appeared agitated and restless. He wanted to remove his IV cannula and wished to move around. The man was treated with midazolam immediately and his symptoms subsided. He was monitored for 30 minutes and then moved to the operating theatre. He received general anaesthesia and the remainder of the procedure was uneventful.
