Materials Science Students Visit MRS Headquarters

JMR because important work

Graduate and undergraduate materials science students, with their professor Mike McHenry (second from right), from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh visit the Materials Research Society Headquarters.

Several graduate and undergraduate materials science students from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh visited the Materials Research Society Headquarters in April to learn about the Society, member benefits, and student opportunities. The visitors, all students of Mike McHenry, learned about trends in MRS electronic publishing, new Web site content initiatives, and “Strange Matter”—the science museum project for-

merly known as Materials MicroWorld. The students also learned how they could participate in news writing for the MRS Bulletin, participate in MRS Meetings and the Graduate Student Award Program, and the MRS/OSA Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship Program. The students came from all areas of the world and many were coupling their materials degrees with other programs—from archaeology to public policy.
