Domestic workers cover a significant part of the total workforce not only in India but also across the globe. In the context of India, however, one witnesses a continued gap when it comes to including domestic workers in the ambit of labour laws and policy interventions. A number of issues relating to the abuse and exploitation of domestic workers have been reported that demand immediate attention. Legal and institutional frameworks that protect the rights of domestic worker risk losing their meaning and relevance, if there are no effective redressal mechanisms that address the violations of their rights.
